July 2008

Since the post about Keri’s trash the dress contest received a TON of responses this week, I thought I’d post something else that requires some blog reader participation! 🙂 (Besides, aren’t contests FUN!?!?) 🙂

CONTEST BACKGROUND/DETAILS: Although we LOVE to shoot at our usual spots like the Village of West Clay, Holcomb Gardens, the Monument & the Canal downtown, we also LOVE finding new places and “hidden gems” that are fun and unique! So, my question to all of you is what are your favorite places around Indy to go to/visit/photograph? (I know a lot of photogs blog stalk me) 😉 😉 Any great places that are photo friendly and have some great indoor shooting opportunities too?! Sometimes the weather keeps us from being able to shoot outside so I’d like to have more indoor locations to recommend when needed. I could probably spend a whole day driving around Indy looking for new locations but I’d rather involve all of YOU since you all gave fantastic ideas for Keri’s TTD session! 🙂

I’ll be putting your name in a drawing for a $100 gift card to use on ANY of our services for each person who emails me new location ideas. (One entry per person but you can email me about as many location ideas as you want) Please include the name of the location, address or approximate vacinity, if they require a photo pass & what you like about the location that is photo-worthy. Email me your entry at: [email protected] We will announce the winner of the drawing on Monday, 8/4 since we will be announcing the winner of Keri’s trash the dress contest this Friday!

FALL PORTRAIT INFO: I was looking at our Fall shooting schedule this week and WOW…we only have 12 more time slots open for Fall portraits if you HAVE to have them taken on a weekend. (Sundays only, sorry…we have weddings every Saturday in Sept & Oct) 😉 We can still do a few shoots throughout the week if needed but we have to have some back up time slots available in case of inclement weather too. If you’ve been thinking of updating your family photos, or would like to book an engagement session or something, please contact us ASAP to get in before we’re totally booked. Last year I had to turn a lot of people away because they waited too long to call/e-mail us. We recommend doing your Fall sessions before 11/1 since you’ll have prettier settings outside before the trees become bare. Our Fall portrait info can be found by clicking HERE. 🙂 Here’s a shot from last year when John & I went to Brown County for a weekend getaway, isn’t it gorgeous?! I can’t wait to see pretty leaves again!!!! 🙂

This past weekend, we photographed Lisa’s family photos! Some of you may recognize her as one of Beach Bum Vacation’s Travel Concierge reps, she is so sweet! (And I HIGHLY recommend Beach Bum for anyone looking into honeymoon or travel services!) She saw our work at the Summer Bridal Show since our booths were next to one another and asked if we do family pics and of course I said YES!!! 🙂 Look how cute her family is!! 🙂 (Luba, their dog, even smiles for photos!!) Here she is with her hubby James and 11 month old baby, Connor…

Doesn’t he have the sweetest, most innocent looking face?! Adorable!!

Another happy dog shot…he looks like a teddy bear!! 🙂 I wanted to run up and hug him every time I photographed him! LOL

PRECIOUS!!

Paws and toes…

LOL Grassy feet…aren’t they cute?!

Lisa said that Connor loves to touch the trees and flowers so we had her hold him while we photographed him in his element…

He’s SUCH a happy baby!!

So cute, look at those cheeks!! 🙂

Loved these close ups!

He heard an airplane fly by and looked up in complete amazement…

So many cute expressions!

Awwww! Aren’t they cute together?!

After we did a few shots of mom & dad together, I took some new head shots for each of them…

And John & Melissa kept Connor busy while I was shooting! LOL

Thanks for a fun time you guys!! Can’t wait to do more family photos for you in years to come! 🙂

I’m taking a break from posting pics tonight to post some fun links! 🙂 I wanted to briefly showcase a few blog posts from Social Couture’s blog. By creating the right lighting & ambiance to your wedding & reception, you’re setting the stage for FANTASTIC pictures…I know I’ve posted about this topic of lighting before but I ran across this great post tonight that had some more samples and suggestions. CLICK HERE to check it out!! 🙂

I found another post on their site about creative centerpieces too! I love it when I see vibrant colors and unique ideas incorporated into great centerpieces. CLICK HERE to check out that blog post as well!

Oh and one more thing…(yeah, Social Couture is one of my all time FAVE blogs…) but they also posted about “Make-Up for a steal” which featured e.l.f. (eyes, lips, face) which looks like fab make-up for dirt cheap!? Has anyone tried their stuff? I’m in shock that their website looks fantastic, their product line looks expansive and it appears that most everything is $1. I could see how brides would flock to this site to buy spa/make-up products to use as party favors and things like that! 🙂 Has anyone had a personal experience with this company? Is it too good to be true?! LOL If this is for real, my sisters are going to go crazy over this!!! 😀

Eva & I are in the same Provisional group for Junior League this year and she mentioned that she needed some new head shots for work. This weekend, we met her and her husband at the Village of West Clay for a quick & painless 🙂 head shot shoot. Isn’t she gorgeous?! This one is definitely my favorite!!

And of course we had to get a few shots of the two of them together! Aren’t they adorable?! 🙂

Jessica’s best friend (also named Jessica) sent me an update on her tonight that I wanted to post on here. MANY of you helped our fundraising efforts earlier this year and we appreciate it SO much!! She’s halfway done with the whole cancer treatment process and is doing great! Jess sent me this pic of the two of them together at her 31st b-day this weekend:

And this update…..

“Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to send an update on my friend Jessica who is fighting breast cancer. She has been doing amazingly well! Almost 6 months have passed and she is halfway done with her treatments. She just finished her final round of Chemotherapy and now she is going to start the second portion of her treatment and maybe the hardest, daily radiation. She has had the strongest faith and brightest attitude of anyone I know; throughout this entire process she has just rolled with the punches.

She has trudged to work even when she was extremely ill with vomiting, made it to family functions without her hair and even worked through a scare when they thought that the cancer might have spread to her brain. They found out that it hadn’t but what a tremendous cross to bear while caring for other sick patients as a nurse herself!

We totaled over $5000 for her in our first round of fundraising but she still has a long road ahead. The radiation has significant side effects, comparable (if not worse) than the chemo and she will need all the help we can offer her! For someone who has whole-heartedly cared for others and sacrificed herself so many times even while battling such a frightening, unrelenting disease, she truly is selfless.

I feel that she deserves the encouragement and support of others to give back to her what she has given to so many others. She just celebrated her 31st birthday and I want us to be able to show her this will be a better year than the last and she still has all of us behind her to see her through! If you would like to donate (for a first or even second time) please visit the webpage dedicated to her at:

www.Jessicasfund.com

Donations are accepted through paypal at no charge by either check or credit card!”

Let’s see if together we can raise another $5,000 to help her get through the 2nd half of her treatments!! 🙂
