James + Kevin = Married!

We photographed this sweet couple’s wedding at Canal 337 last month and I just love these guys, they have such a fun and loving energy about them AND they’re so adorably cute together! I was soooo looking forward to their wedding, I knew it would be awesome and it WAS! All of their details were so perfect and it was such a beautiful day outside, we got some great shots of them around the canal and the venue, we had so much fun!! 🙂 The most memorable part though was feeling SO much love that they share between each other and that all of their friends and families have for them, it was such a special moment to witness and something I’ll never forget.

I also loved their Fall decor/flowers, their custom guest book sign in mat, their fun pom-pom entrance, their cupcake display & the sparkler exit with the surprise antique car at the end of the night! To top it off, they also had matching rainbow socks (adorable!) AND photo cut outs of their dogs from their engagement session that we did a few weeks before their wedding! It was such a unique touch to personalize their wedding and include their puppies in the photos!! 🙂 LOVED IT! Thanks for a great time you guys, lots more pics coming soon!

In their words…

1.      What was Kevin’s favorite wedding moment? “I loved our pom-pom entrance into the cocktail hour right after our wedding! It was a fun way to join the happy, cheering crowd of our loved ones and to celebrate with them right after the ceremony. There was just a really fun, happy energy that everyone had, and it felt really good to walk in and feel that happiness from everyone.” 🙂

2.      What was James’ favorite wedding moment? “When our officiant had us turn to face the audience before reading our vows. She included our guests into the ceremony by asking them if they’d give us their continued friendship and support in our marriage, and everyone gave a resounding “we will!” It was so amazing to think of the diversity in that room supporting Kevin and I, a same-sex couple, getting married. That moment will remain in my memory for a very long time, it was epic.” (I agree!) 🙂

3.      What was the funniest wedding moment? “We really liked seeing the photos and videos that people did in the photo booth at our reception! We got a lot of laughs from that. One long-time friend in particular–we won’t name names 😉 –probably had a bit to drink before entering the photo booth. She was looking at what she thought was the camera, and ended up leaving us a funny video message with only the lower half of her face in the frame. We really cracked up when we got to that video!”

4.      What was your first dance song? “When You Say Nothing At All” by Ronan Keating

5.      What advice would you give to future couples? “We approached our wedding with the philosophy of “tradition is peer pressure from dead people,” and we picked and chose where we wanted to be traditional in our ceremony and where we wanted to do our own thing. It worked out amazingly well, and we never felt guilt or obligation over what we “should” be doing. We think that’s good advice for your wedding and your life: figure out what you and your spouse value and what’s best for you. Live your life according to that, not according to what other people expect from you.” (BEST. ADVICE. EVER!) 🙂

6.      Where did you go on your honeymoon? “We did a self-driving tour of Scotland so we could experience a lot of the country. We did a broad range of activities from visiting a small family farm in a remote village to going to the theatre in Edinburgh.”
