December 2018

We photographed this sweet couple’s wedding in October and we had so much fun with them that day!! They are so cute together and I absolutely loved their flowers, decor, the dresses & their sequined linens on the cake table! They also had a dessert buffet that was like NONE other! 🙂 WOW…I’ve never seen so many gorgeous desserts displayed at a reception before, and of course, it made for some amazing ring shots! The best man gave us all a good laugh that night as he ran into the reception hall wearing a dinosaur costume too, everyone loved it! Of course, I have fond memories of their reception venue because that’s where my husband and I held our reception 15 years ago!! 🙂 Fun times!

In her words…

1.      How did he propose? Jared proposed at our favorite winery in Fort Wayne, Byler Lane! It was a cute little winery that we had fallen in love with and visited often. We did a wine tasting and then got wine slushies to enjoy. We usually sat on the patio but that day Jared wanted to go sit down by the water. The weather was perfect. He proposed down by the water. The owners of the winery had a daughter who was pursuing photography. Jared contacted them and had our engagement documented through pictures and video. After he proposed he had a party planned back at his aunt’s house where our families got together and celebrated. It was a fabulous day.

2.      What was your favorite wedding moment? My favorite moment of the wedding was seeing Jared on the golf course for our first look. We did not intend to do a first look until the week of the wedding. It was so great to just be the two of us out there for that moment. It was super special and there were so many emotions. I loved being able to experience that.

3.      What was his favorite wedding moment? Jared’s favorite moment was also the first look. He said that having that special time with just the two of us was one he will never forget.

4.      What was the funniest wedding moment? When our best man entered the reception in a dinosaur outfit 🙂

5.      What was your first dance song? “All of you” by John Legend

6.      Where are you going on your honeymoon?  Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

7.      What advice would you give to future couples? Enjoy every single minute and do not sweat the small stuff. The week before our wedding was super stressful but the process and ride was so much fun. It goes very very fast that day. I also took a minute at the end of the ceremony to take in all the people that were there to celebrate us. I made it a point to take in every little detail before it happened so that I could witness what we had worked so hard for. (I agree, great advice!) 🙂

We photographed this sweet couple’s wedding this Fall and had a blast with them that day! I KNEW that this wedding was going to be amazing from the very start…you see, Jackie & I have worked weddings together at the Indy Zoo for years so when it was her turn to get married, I was soooo hoping that she’d call me about her photography needs! As the planner for the zoo, I knew she had worked with hundreds of other photographers in her career so when she chose us, I was so humbled. It meant so much to me and my team to get to be there for her big day!!

All of her details were absolutely amazing that day! Her dress, hair, make-up, jewelry, flowers, everything just looked fantastic! To top it off, they had the nicest friends & family members that treated us like family that day. Oh and did I mention they had the COOLEST thing I’ve ever seen during a cocktail hour EVER?! They had a BEER donkey!! Yep, Toby the beer donkey was roaming around with cold beers for their guests to enjoy that day. I love that she was able to incorporate her love of animals into her big day!! Their 3 adorable dogs were incorporated in their engagement photos, wedding photos, in the maid of honor’s speech, on the side of the cake, as part of the guest sign in display and in lieu of favors, they donated to 2 worthy animal rescues….LOVE that!! Thanks Jackie & Doug for an amazing time at your wedding!! 🙂

In her words…

1.      How did he propose?

Doug and I met online on Match.com and met in person for the first time at a restaurant downtown called “Rock Bottom.” On our seven year anniversary Doug reached out and asked if I wanted to go to dinner that night. I said yes and he suggested we go to Rock Bottom. I thought it was a great idea and super sweet that he would suggest the place we first met in person! I parked in the mall parking garage and walked over thinking, “is he going to propose?” Rock Bottom is sentimental to us but we don’t live downtown so we normally don’t do dinner downtown. I looked for people/cars I would recognize as I walked in and nothing. We had a great dinner and nothing. So I thought, “oh it is not happening today”. He offers to come over and hang out before he goes home. We drive back to my apartment and once we are inside, I see “Will U Marry Me” spelled out in photos of us on the living room floor with loose rose petals bunched together in the shapes of hearts! He got down on one knee and it was all a blur but he asked and I said, “yes!” Looking at the photos I noticed he took the time to put them in chronological order! Little did I know he took half a day off work to set everything up and that he also let my Godparents in on it so they would be available to take pictures.

2.      What was your favorite wedding moment?

It was such an amazing day and there were so many great moments. I loved the first look with Doug and I, the first look with my dad, taking pictures with my dog Charlie, putting my dress on with my mom & sister, being able to see & spending the quality time with family and friends I don’t get to see very often, having the donkey Toby as part of our cocktail hour, my sisters rock star toast with the AMAZING cardboard cut out photos of the dogs and so much more. My absolute favorite moment of the day had to be during the ceremony when Doug and I were exchanging vows. I can’t put into words how much joy was in my heart at that moment.

3.      What was the funniest wedding moment?

One of the funniest moments for me was walking down the aisle. I have been in the wedding industry 10 years and I have helped with processional line ups more times than I can count. The ceremony has started, everyone has walked down the aisle and it is my turn with dad. We were so excited and so many emotions flowing I did not realize I was standing on the wrong side of my dad! lol Does it really matter, no but the funny part is that I did not realize it until we had walked all the way down the aisle, stopped at the front in the grass and I look at Doug and my brain snaps to “wait, they are to my immediate right. wait, dad is standing on my left” and I said out loud, “I am on the wrong side!” lol In a crying voice because I am so emotional and happy and laughing lol So my dad goes “what?” Then says “we can fix that” and quickly whips around the the other side of me. We all got a good laugh. 🙂

4.      What was your first dance song?

The song “Yours” by Russell Dickerson. Doug will send me songs to listen to or music videos to songs that he likes or that put his feelings into words. One day he sent me that song, just because. It was such a sweet gesture and that song will always mean so much to us both.

5.      Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

6.      What advice would you give to future couples?

The day goes by so fast so try to take in every moment! (I agree!)

We photographed this sweet couple’s tropical themed wedding at her parent’s private property and we had so much fun that day!! Hollie & Joe are so laid back and fun to be around, and their wedding party was just as great – the best man did a fake first look with the groom which turned out hilarious! I loved all of her tropical/beachy details that day too! Her starfish earrings and flip flops were adorable & the birds of paradise flowers were stunning! (The orchids and palm leaves were a nice touch too!!) The reception decor was so cute and fit their theme perfectly. To top off the evening, we got an amazing sunset and they had a fireworks show for their guests, which everyone loved!! Thanks for a fun time you guys, more pics coming soon!!

In her words…

1.      How did he propose?

On the beach in Virginia. I love the beach!!!

2.      What was your favorite wedding moment?

Standing in front of our family and friends listening to my cousin describing us to a “T”

3.      What was his favorite wedding moment?

When we got time together alone to watch the sunset!

4.      What was the funniest wedding moment?

When the generator ran out of gas and no one missed a beat. Everyone kept singing and dancing like there was still power.

5.      What was your first dance song?

“To make you feel my love” by Billy Joel and “End of all things” by Panic at the disco

6.      Where are you going on your honeymoon?

Punta Cana, Dominican

7.      What advice would you give to future couples?

Relax and take it all in, it’s only one day of many to come. (Great advice!) 🙂

We photographed this sweet couple’s wedding at Black Iris Estate last month and had so much fun with them! They’re so cute together and their wedding party was so fun too…instead of having a flower girl and ring bearer, they had “flower people” which were adult wedding party attendants who had fun tossing flowers as they were going up the aisle. It was hilarious! 🙂 Shelley is a Disney fan so there were little nods to Disney throughout the day. My favorite was their replica of the enchanted rose from Beauty & the Beast. It was so unique and it made for some great ring shots!! They had a beautifully choreographed first dance, an amazing sunset and a hooka bar but one of the best surprises of the night was the father/daughter dance. Shelley had recorded herself singing the song to her dad but then he went back to the recording studio and recorded himself singing it to her, it was such a sweet moment and everyone loved it!! Thanks for a fun time you guys, more pics to come!! 🙂

 In their words…

1) How did he propose? Following a Piano Guy’s concert, my parents and Winston and I were able to get meet-and-greet pictures with the group.  Winston and I were last (to try to get a few things personally signed…or so I thought).  The group asked us where we were from and we mentioned that we flew out from Indy to DC specifically for the concert.  The group proceeded to pull out a gift bag to thank us for coming, which made me extremely confused, but I assumed it was normal for them to give a gift to the last group.  I pull out an ornament with a guy on his knee and it says “Shelley, will you marry me?” I turn to my right to see Winston on his knee holding a ring box. Of course I said yes and got a picture with all of the Piano Guys looking shocked at my ring. I could not have thought up a better proposal if I tried.
2) What was your favorite wedding moment? It’s hard to say between the “ditto to everything you just said” card given to me by Winston during our card exchange after the first look, my flower man throwing petals like LeBron James and his baby powder, or the different toasts that had me splitting from  laughter.  However, I think the thing that took the cake was the father-daughter dance.  My dad had me professionally record our song, “Daddy Dance With Me”, to surprise everyone.  Little did I know that he recorded over my version partially with him singing to surprise me.  I couldn’t stop laughing and completely forgot most of the choreographed dance that we did.  It was so sweet and endearing and was absolutely unlike my father in the best way.
3) What was his favorite wedding moment? I would have to say that my favorite part was between the exchange of our cards (but really her reaction to the “ditto” part), the first dance, and the toasts.
4) What was the funniest wedding moment? My father mentioned my mom’s response to Winston’s request to marry me as “Meg Ryan in the cafeteria” in his toast and my sister-in-law telling people your suggestion on how to not cry at the beginning of her toast (look up and squeeze your butt cheeks). I NEVER though either would ever be said…let alone in from of 100 people. 🙂
5) What was your first dance song? We danced to “How Does a Moment Last Forever” from the new Beauty and the Beast and sung by Celine Dion.  It was unique and gave me a Disney link without some people having any clue.
6) Where did you go on your honeymoon? We stayed in Aruba for our Honeymoon.  It was absolutely gorgeous and the seafood was phenomenal.  I’m pretty sure I gained back all my pre-wedding weight loss already from the delicious food.
7)  What advice would you give to future couples? I would tell others that the day goes by extremely quick.  Things will go wrong, but if you surround yourself with the right people, as I was so fortunate to do, they will be taken care of and will look seamless from the outside.  Choose your bridal party wisely to include not necessarily those close to you, but those that will do anything to make sure your day goes as planned.  I literally had one bridesmaid sew me into my dress when the hook and eye fell out during dinner, one grab scissors to cut a part of my dress that tore, one of them went on a Midol run, and the last one was literally ready for anything (including helping me go to the bathroom, which I did by myself and was so proud). Erin and her team were likely the reason the day went as smoothly as it did. She ensured that our timeline caught back up to her wonderfully detailed schedule after us gals were a little late to the venue and one rain cloud decided to pour down just before the father-daughter first look.  As things were happening, the vendors and my family had a printout of her timeline to make sure that everything moved like clockwork (and it absolutely did).  I was blessed to be able to include such a wonderful photography group in my day to help with literally anything and everything and could not have wished for a better result!! (Awww thanks Shelley!!) 🙂
