Poll: Should we continue posting image collages on our other website?
I tried to post a poll on here and for some reason, it wasn't working so I'll just allow everyone to post their honest feedback about this in the comments section. 🙂 On our main EHP website, we have a weddings page (that some of you may not even be aware of) where we've been posting image collages online for the last 3 or 4 years. Our wedding photographer, Gary Fong, did something similar back when we got married and we wished that he would've made the collage available for purchase. So, we created image collages for every wedding (back before we starting blogging) and added Paypal to the bottom of each collage so that if someone wanted to order an 8×10 of their collage, they could. We've had some orders but not a ton, but what we've been noticing is that everyone seems to be coming to our blog to check out their preview pics because they're MUCH larger than what's on the image collage, they can copy & post them in their knot bios, myspace & facebook accounts, etc. and I think everyone likes to read the stories behind the images. Which got me thinking…I spend about 2-3 hours per wedding just choosing the collage pics, editing them, creating the collage, posting to the web & blog, adding Paypal, etc. etc. and since we've been so busy shooting lately that we can hardly keep up with editing (and the fact that not many people buy the collages anymore) maybe we should just be linking the couples names to their blog post instead of creating individual collages for each wedding. What do you think?

I think the idea of linking people to the couple’s blog section is a great idea. Maybe you could offer to make a collage if someone wanted it? You could leave the ones on there that are on there now as examples, that way you wouldn’t have to create one for each person that wants to see what it looks like. But, then you wouldn’t have to create one for each wedding.

That’s a good idea. Yeah, since John is creating a new website for me anyway (one that matches this blog) we may end up switching that page so that all of the weddings link to their corresponding blog post. That would be super easy! But if someone who has already booked us had their heart set on seeing a collage online, we could create one for them too….thanks Amanda!!

I say do away with the collages! I would have much rather seen pics oN the blog!
Erin
That’s good to know coming from another former bride….:)

I agree with Jessica. I would rather see them on the blog where they are bigger and easier to see. I think it shows your work better because you can pick up on the little details.
Erin
Very true…the collage images have to be so small in order to fit them on an 8×10 print. I think I’ll just start linking to the blog! 🙂

I love to come to both of your sites to check out all of the latest pictures. I would love to be able to have a link to see more pictures from an event but also have the option to have a collage put together to purchase. I know I will probably buy a few of the collages for my upcoming wedding for family members, but a link for anyone else to see is more than sufficient. Is there a way to tell which weddings are new? I get lost in the alphabetized way and end up looking at the same ones over and over. Anyway-Amanda and I have become “Hession junkies†and are always talking about your latest pictures. We love what you do and you have us both as devotees for life!

Erin,
Personally, I like the collages … but then again, I like ALL of your work! Maybe consider asking each couple if they’d want a collage? That way you won’t waste time on those who don’t want it, but still can accommodate those of us who do. It’s kind of like a Cliff’s Notes version of the wedding photos – ha! Looking forward to working with you.
