Travel

If you know me well, you know that my favorite time of the year is Fall. I love the cool crisp air, the beautiful colors on the trees, football, hot chocolate, trips to Tuttle’s Orchard and our annual trip to Bridgeton! My Grandpa has a food truck business where he sells the most amazing Italian Beef sandwiches and he’s had a spot at the Covered Bridge Fest for the past 20 years. John & I have made it an annual tradition to go down and visit with him and enjoy the sights (and tastes) of Fall. This year, we went down on 10/16 and decided to be a bit spontaneous on the drive back, we stopped at one of the national parks ~ can’t remember which one it was now, sorry ~ but the leaves were phenomenal, the sunset was gorgeous and there were even deer that came out to be photographed!! We couldn’t believe how close we got to them before they ran off.  😉

I’m a few weeks behind with blogging, it’s been an insanely busy shooting season and now I’m catching up on editing and blogging. I may go on a posting spree today! 😉 Anyway, on Friday 10/5, we photographed April & Derek’s adorable Fall wedding in Terre Haute. Mother Nature wasn’t very kind that day, it rained all but about 10 minutes that day, but let me tell you, as soon as we heard the rain stop, we headed outside and got as many amazing outdoor shots that we could get in the limited amount of time that we had! LOL! 🙂 I loved April’s beautiful pink flowers, bird cage veil, wedding wishes tree, cute cupcakes & fun photo booth! We had a great time despite the weather!! It was also great to see her sisters again, we photographed both of their weddings too so it felt like a little reunion of sorts! 🙂 Thanks for a fun time you guys, more pics coming soon!!

On 8/5, we made a quick trip down to Alabama to watch my sister graduate from Air Force Field Training at Maxwell AFB in Alabama! She spent 4 long weeks in Alabama & Mississippi this Summer in the extreme heat and managed to survive & make a ton of new friends along the way. 🙂 We managed to make it a fun little getaway for all of us of course & we stayed at the Renaissance in Montgomery (highly recommend ~ their staff is soooo nice!) and we ate at some great restaurants during our 3 day mini trip. Since it was John’s b-day week, we even surprised him with singing waitresses on the first night. 🙂 The hotel restaurant had this really cool color wall that would change colors every few seconds so we took some fun “couples” shots in front of that then the next morning we got up early and went to the parade on the base. We got to meet a lot of Mary’s new friends, take photos, see her sleeping quarters & even take her out for lunch! After we left the base, we found a cute little outdoor mall (think Clay Terrace) and got some shopping in before heading back to the hotel to pack up for the flight home the next day. Of course, we managed to find a pet store along the way and Leah found a new furbaby friend that she wanted to take home with us! LOL! Since we were traveling home on John’s b-day, we decided to delay all parties until this coming weekend so I’ll post those pics next week!! 😉

Last year we had a fun photo shoot up near Chicago, we stayed at The Wit Hotel in the heart of downtown and we had a great time! After shooting 7 (yes, SEVEN!) weddings in June this year, we were ready for a mini vacay but we didn’t have a ton of time available in between weekend shoots! We were thankful for a 4 day/3 night mini getaway in July which allowed us to take a little break and go play for a few days! 🙂 Even though it wasn’t a long vacation, I wanted to do it up right ~ so I upgraded us to a nice suite at The Wit & called up Sprinkles cupcakes and had them deliver cupcakes to our suite before our arrival. 😉 John was so surprised, he loved it! We enjoyed vegging out with Gino’s East pizza on the first night then we went to Water Tower shops and the Skydeck Ledge on the 2nd day. (And no, it wasn’t as scary as it looks!) We came back after a long day of shopping & sightseeing and found a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room (from my dad, step-mom & sisters) which was so sweet!! The next day we conquered the Shedd Aquarium! They had a very cool jelly fish exhibit going on and I realized how much I ADORE otters!! All in all, it was a great mini trip and I hope to do something fun like that with my hubby again soon!!!

On 5/17 John & I celebrated 9 years of marriage! 🙂 I wanted to do something a little different this year, I bought him 9 balloons and each one had a happy memory attached to it from each year that we’ve been married…he loved it! My aunt surprised us with beautiful pink peonies from her garden & we were given tons of thoughtful cards and facebook messages all day, thank you to all of you who made it a great day for us! To top it all off, John & I decided to do a quick overnight trip to Kings Island since it’s been 10-15 years since both of us have been there! Just being able to check out of “adulthood” for a day was really nice! LOL We walked around, rode some rides, shopped, ate great food, played some games and had a blast just hanging out together. We stayed at the Westin in Cincy (highly recommended!) and we had a great suite overlooking downtown where there was a very cool party going on that night with a band and light show, it was awesome! John even surprised me and had room service deliver chocolate covered strawberries for our anniversary that night – yum! He’s so sweet! 🙂
